We’re thrilled to be creating a huge projection mapping show as the grand finale for Horsham District Year of Culture 2019. Having been involved with organising the launch event back in January 2019 it’s great to book end the year with this fabulous visual spectacular in Market Square, Horsham.
What is Projection Mapping?
Projection mapping is a spatial augmented reality, which turns any space or surface into a canvas for digital artwork. Most notably this pioneering and visually striking technique was used as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, projected onto Buckingham Palace, and now it’s coming to Horsham!
How do we do it?
Working with Creative Technology we have 3D scanned Horsham’s Old Town Hall, now a Bill’s Restaurant. This data is then used to create a realistic 3D model which is animated in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways. The animation is then projected back on to the front of the structure, giving the impression the building is moving. I don’t want to give too much away about the show… but if you like dragons, ballerina’s and all things Christmas then come check it out! There might even be a cameo from the Global Gruffalo.
The 10-minute show runs 4 times each hour from November 30th to December 31st, between 4 pm and 8 pm. Elements of the show will change each week to feature a variety of events that have taken place as part of the Horsham District Year of Culture 2019. As well as a Christmas carol sing-along medley and lots more festive cheer!
